On my last trip to the US on an ESTA in September 2020 I was advised by the CBP agent to apply for a visa for my next visit (I was close to staying there for 180 days in the preceding calendar year due to medical treatment after my E3 visa expired). The agent made notes so I assume his recommendation is on my file. I didn't overstay and obviously don't want to jeopardise my future visits to the US.
Rather than risk returning on an ESTA in the near future I guess I need a B2. I just wondered if I should mention the CBP agent's recommendation when I have an interview? Presumably the interviewer will want to know why I can't simply travel on an ESTA for tourism purposes?
