Hi everyone,
My wife is a US citizen and we are both employed in Korea as teachers. We are about to file our I-130 and consulted with an immigration attorney to make sure all our ducks are in a row.
She mentioned that since we will be doing self sponsorship (my wife's parents have retired outside of the US) the I-864 will require us to have 3x the federal poverty level in liquid assets. She wasn't able to tell us about the impact of student loans on this amount. My wife has about 50k in student loan debt, does this amount offset our liquid assets when filling out the I-864?
We just paid $200 to an attorney who didn't know the answer to this question :(
Thanks in advance for any help
