European countries want highly educated immigrants. They want upper class people like engineers, doctors, nurses to come into their country. They don't want physical laborers. So if somebody is a mechanic, bus driver, welder, waitress, janitor or whatever, they have no chance of getting a long-term visa which can lead to eligibility to citizenship. Just because somebody doesn't have a degree doesn't mean they can't contribute to their country. That all. What they don't realize if that the average Middle class American (like me) works in the trades. The average American isn't a doctor, engineer or whatever. These are upper class people.
