Can I go back to the US?

My family and I got our green cards in 2014. We moved to US and by the end of the same year, we came back to my birth country because things didn’t work out. We got a 2 year extension. Just before the two years were about the end, the person who sponsored us, and who was financially supporting us sadly passed away and we decided not to go back. The expiration date on my green on my green card is 2022. Is there anyway to go back to the US and maintain permanent residency?
