Visiting US before L1 start date

Hi all, I’m a holder of L1 visa and my start date of work in US is in April 2022. I’m wondering if I can enter States in December in order to look for places to live and tourism. Can I apply for ESTA and go there for a week or that’s somehow forbidden while waiting on start date?
