Moving back but without family

I'm spending time with family outride the USA for now until all of my papers go through. When they do (in about a year) I am told I have to live in the USA. I'm so happy with my family though, I don't want to leave them. However, I also don't want to lose my job opportunities and such. Has anyone gone through this and how would you handle it?
