I am from France.. I became a permanent resident through marriage to a US citizen via K1 route. I am now a permanent resident since 2014.
I dragged my feet a little (wanted to take a break from USCIS and paperwork and giving them money and also being a french passport holder the need for an American passport was not granting me more benefits as far as visa free travel around the world) and am only applying for naturalization now (I feel ready to become American in my heart which was important to me rather than filing on deadline just because) and can do it on the basis of having been a LPR for 5 years or longer and not through the 3 year marriage based route.
I almost finished my N400 online application for naturization but I am being asked for my marriage certificate as a required evidence, on top of copy of my green card.
How come since my filing for naturalization is not based on my marriage to a US citizen but the 5 year residency?
I double checked that I checked the right box in my application (5 year residency mark) and it is correct.
Do i need the county official sealed certificate as proof or any other document showing my marriage (like the little certificate that was attached to my marriage license signed by the judge and my husband and myself) would work?
I am also being asked to provide the birth certificates of my children as additional evidence. I had those at home so no big deal but for some reason I do no longer have a county sealed marriage certificate and it seems I may have to request one before submitting.
Also another question. While the application is pending and being processed, will I be okay traveling out of the US? I usually go back to France to visit once a year or so (usually for a month at most, my longest was 55 days this summer since covid happened and I hadnt traveled in 2020) I just got back from spending the summer there but may take another trip (depending on the covid situation) for the holidays.
As far as "crime" are concerned, should I include the only couple traffic violations I ever got (the oldest is like 10 years ago a speeding ticket and the most recent is 8 years ago for an expired license).
