US visa automatic revalidation

Hello, Has anyone here had any experiences with the US visa automatic revalidation? I have an expired F1 visa and planning to travel to Canada for a few days. I’m just wondering how does the process work and do I need to bring any other documents other than my i20 and my passport with the expired visa. Thanks!
