My fiance's B-2 visa had expired 6 months ago and she had applied for I-539. On the application she ended up putting the requested extension date for 6 months (August 9th) as they had asked for a reasonable extension period. It is now August 17th and the extension is still pending. I've heard that if they approve an I-539 after the requested date, the extension period is still going to end on the requested date on the application (Aug 9th). Which means she'll suddenly be without status once the extension is approved.
I'm a bit frustrated as the extension approval process takes so long and we are left with no visibility on how much longer she can actually stay here for.
1) If the I-539 is approved after the requested date (August 9th), will USCIS automatically grant a later date for the extension?
2) Is there a way to request to change the extension date while it is still pending?
