Apparently, even green card holders have to signup for selective service. So back when the US had a real draft, did GC holders have to participate in the conflict just like anyone else? And if they refuse to serve and go back to their home countries, what they face trouble from the USCIS? Even more interesting, what if the GC holder was a citizen of the enemy country, like a German or Italian citizen during WWII? Japanese citizens I believe were most likely sent to internment camps, but the US did not conduct large scale internment of Germans or Italians.
