Is it normal to only have a weeks notice for your immigration interview?

My husband and I got our email notice of an interview in Juarez on the 5th of August (next week!!). We were not prepared at all and our lawyer failed to tell us the case was approved about a year ago. Is this normal to only have a week notice? I think we’re going to have to postpone the interview as we can’t make it happen in a week.
