Health insurance during adjustment of status?

My husband and I just submitted his I-130/I-485 packet, and I we’re considering adding him to my employer’s health insurance plan, but it comes out to ~$2200 every 6 months. Is there an alternative for someone in his situation, or is the spouse’s employer plan generally safest?
