Hi, burner account here, but I have a question I'm hoping you guys can answer.
Yes, I know this is not legal advice, etc and I am also seeking legal counsel on this matter of course. I just want to be better equipped for that conversation.
So, my girlfriend, now wife, were in a relationship for quite some time before getting married a few months ago. We share a child. I didn't really want to be married in general but at some point it was the choice between having a relationship or having my gf be deported due to a covid-related H1b problem. We got married. It hasn't been working out, and let's assume for this story that it will not. Things happened that can't unhappen and I'm not up for this. Problem of course now is that she's filed for a green card on the basis of this marriage and I feel it would be cruel for me to just file for divorce now.
I don't think I can make it three years that it seems this process may take.
If we get divorced at some point, is there any way to salvage her green card process?
I should note, that I did marry for love. This isn't a green card arrangement. Of course things changed and now I don't know what to do.
Thank you for listening.
