Is it possible to continue a petition for immigration that was discontinued or unattended for more than a decade?

My mom started a petition process for me and my brother to migrate to the US around 2005-2006 but due to unforeseen circumstances, she was unable to attend to it for a while, and I believe she also lost the papers and things got pretty hectic for her. Long story short, the process was left unattended for years. Now my brother and I are both married and my mom wants to be with her grand kids. Since she's in a more comfortable situation now, we thought about exploring the old petition and whether it can be reopened or something?
