I was active duty in the military when we filed for her conditional residence in October of 2018. Throughout the timeline from immigration receiving our documents, fingerprints, an interview, and the approval of her conditional residence was about 6 months and my wife received her conditional residence card in May 2019 with an expiration date of May 14th, 2021.
Throughout this whole time from when she got her conditional residence approved, we decided to be ahead of the ball game and develop our packet of evidence for the I-751 form two years later.
February 13th, 2021 is when we filed and sent our packet with the I-751 form. We received our notifications from USCIS about two weeks later saying our package was received and currently going through processing.
Throughout this waiting game, my wife and I were a bit worried because at this time, I was transitioning out of the Marine Corps with an EAS date of May 14th, 2021. We moved from California back to New Jersey and we had to update our mailing address to the address in New Jersey through USPS in case an immigration letter came in the mail.
A week before my wife’s expiration date of her conditional green card, she received her 18 month extension letter which gave us a bit of relief for the time being.
From May 2021, to now, I have been going to school while my wife worked at her part time job but the approval of her 10 year residency was always in the back of my mind.
On the morning of August 4th, 2021, I did my daily check of emails and saw that I received a notification from USCIS. I dropped everything and logged in to see the case status and it said approved.
I’m not sure if there was a trick in the book for cases to be processed quicker than others but I will say, follow instructions for everything when submitting this form. Good luck to everyone else and their process.
