Green card holder 1 year away from applying for citizenship. Can I stay out of the US for more than 6 months?
Hey all I am a green card holder who is eligible to apply for citizenship next year.
I applied for a F2A visa for my wife and I am currently visiting her for a few months as the application is still being processed.
I left the US on July 1st, and was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to stay till Jan 1st (our anniversary) and fly out on jan 2nd. This crosses the 6 month threshold by 1 day, and I have not travelled for more than 3 months total since I received my greencard (last travel was 2019 and 2017).
Do you know if this will make the citizenship application harder for me? does the time to apply reset at that point and I have to wait 5 years again?
Thanks!
