Hello,
My friend who holds an F-2 visa, and is trying to transfer to an F-1 visa so he could study more in the United States. His father has an F-1 visa and is on OPT that ends mid-May. My friend's new school start date is July 1st.
We were wondering whether a gap visa (B-2) is necessary since his father's 60 days of grace period should cover his stay (Mid-May to July 1st).
Another option we thought of is since his father is trying to enroll in another school as an F-1, just add my friend as F-2 so there will be no gap?
My friend submitted I-539 (F-2 -> F-1) around Dec 2019.
