If a document says sign in ink, does it have to be using pen on paper, or can I sign it on my iPad?

Sorry for the dumb question.

I am filing some immigration documents. Document says Sign in Ink. Do I need to print the form sign in ink and scan and send it? Or can I just sign using an iPad with hand or apple pencil?

Thank you!
