My spouse has an H1B approval letter, and I have a H4 approval letter.
We were living in the US, and came to my home country for a brief vacation.
We had to get our visas stamped in order to return to the US, so we scheduled our visa stamping interview on the first Monday of our trip.
After the interview, we received an email saying we had a visa refusal under section 221(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Our lawyer back in the US said this is common, and they may require more time to check our paperwork.
Anyway, while this was going on, the US Consulate closed their doors. They've had our passports for 2 months now. I've emailed once to check on the progress but no reply. My spouse has had to overstay her visitor's visa to my country, which may/may not equal a five-year ban.
Does anyone have any advice or insight into a situation like this?
We are both extremely stressed about getting back to our life in the US.
