Why do translators sign also the originals?

An official (Spanish) translator translated some documents from Italian/English to Spanish. The file they sent me by post contains not only the sworn translations, but also the documents in the original language with a stamp and signature. Why? Are these relevant too for Visa purposes (e.g., should I make copies of these documents too?)?
