What's the best / cheap place to immigrate in the US?

I'm a Filipino teenager who's going to immigrate to the US a year later. For now, I'll be worrying about the money since I need to covert that to USD. But to lift a weight, what is the best place, for a new immigrant, or a cheap state, to be in the US?

None of the OFW uncles come from the US, so I wouldn't know where to start...
