Opening US bank account as a foreigner w SSN

I am currently in the process of applying for a marriage green card via consular processing as I have to live abroad for the next couple of years due to work contract.

I met my husband when I was studying in the US on a F1 student visa and that's how I obtained a SSN.

I was wondering if I am able to open a US bank account with that SSN? I want to start building my credit history before I moved to the States.

Any advice would be appreciated!
