What was your immigration experience like? Us to Canada (without sponsorship)

Im in college(freshman) planning to immigrate to Canada within the next year or two. After this virus is over of course. My plan is this: transfer to a community college and continue my business degree. After a certain number of years in school if I recall i can be eligible for a work permit for 3years. That will give me enough time to find a job. After the job exceed in my role until i get citizenship then i can dial down and explore. Im planning for all this to be settled in about 5-6years. What is the reality of this process?
