F1 Student to Marriage based green card.

I stumbled upon this subreddit, and it’s fantastic, I really hope someone can help me or give me advice in my situation. I live in Nebraska, I’m currently on an F1 visa, and OPT. My EAD card expires next week, and so I know I can’t work unless I have a valid EAD card.

Anyways My wife and I have been together for almost 4 years, social media can prove it, we’ve essentially started putting each other’s name on about everything, and what not.

Anyways I have a few questions:

Do I need an immigration lawyer to take me through the process, or is that an extra? I’m slightly terrified of immigration lawyer fees to just file on behalf and attend an interview.

How long is it currently taking to get a renewed EAD card? And how long is the whole process, to obtaining a work visa/green card?

Thank you!:)
