I don’t want my girlfriend to leave. She’s an international student and we’ve been together for 3 years now. She’s graduating in half a year and we’re thinking of getting married earlier than we had hoped. Can she still stay in the US while we wait for the forms to process? We always wanted to marry

Basically title. She’s not sure if her internship will pan out to a full-time job since their budget was cut. This means that while her f-1 visa ends in ‘24, she needs an OPT.

Now she has to either apply for jobs related to her degree (which is hard) for OPT or leave the country.

We decided to get married anyway and it’ll be best for us so that she can stay here, we just didn’t think it would be earlier than usual.

Will filing these papers allow us to stay together in the US? Or will she have to leave the country and wait the application process out there?

Also, will she still be able to hunt for jobs as she’s currently an F-1 student with OPT while we wait for a work permit?
