Conditional green card traveling outside of US

My wife and I moved back to the US last year (I'm US citizen, she is CR1 green card holder). From my understanding, when there is a 90 day window on her green card expiry, we apply for her 10 year green card at that point.

My main question is, can my wife leave the US for a 3-4 month period and then return, or does she need to stay in the US permanently until we get the 10 year card? Her home country requires an expensive quarantine process, so we want to make sure we get everything done while she's there so we don't need to spend the money to go back for a while. She would be back in the US before the 90 day window for the green card extension application. Should this be ok, or is there something I'm overlooking?
