Hi! I’m confused about what to do so I’d appreciate any recommendations.
So, I got a J1 visa for a fellowship in the US for 5 months but had to return to my country because of the Covid-19. It wasn’t technically possible to complete the fellowship as the newsroom I meant to work at started to work remotely. The fellowship isn’t cancelled, only postponed until it re-opens but now my J1 visa is expired and my visa states that I’m subject to a two year rule.
Me and other fellows were thinking that there should be an exception to that rule since the organization’s decision to postpone the program was due to extraordinary circumstances.
My fellowship organizer exchanged emails with the visa department and they first seemed understanding but then not so much.
How would you recommend me to officially proceed to ask for an exception to be able to apply the same visa before 2 years?
Thank you!
