I'm from the Schengen area and am planning on applying for a J-1 Research Scholar visa, because I have an appointment on February 1, 2021. I am currently working under the presumption that the travel ban will be extended past December 31, 2020 (just to be sure).
All sources keep telling me that Research Scholars, Short-term Scholars, Professors, Specialists, Alien Physicians, Students or Student Interns categories are exempted from the Presidential Proclamation of June 22. What does this mean? Do I still need a NIE to proceed with my plans? Or am I exempted from this requirement?
