This is a bit of a strange situation but I'll try my best to keep it brief.
My mother in law moved to the US nearly thirty years ago. She never applied for residency. My wife and her brother were covered by DACA throughout highschool but were basically SoL afterwards from how I understand it. My wife has her residency now through me but her brother and mother still didn't.
My mother in law decided to apply for VAWA due to being abused by her husband and him never following through on completing the residency application. She ultimately included my brother in law on the application as well. She used my address to submit the paperwork to avoid her husband discovering she had applied.
A few days ago we received a letter denying the request for my brother in law (mother in law wasn't mentioned) and that he had thirty days to leave the country.
So my concern is now, that ICE will come to my address looking for him. Which isn't too worrying in and of itself, but I'm concerned about what would happen if they pressed me for my brother in law's location. Do I have to give them that information if it's requested? Can they detain me if I refuse? Also, I'm here with my young kids during the day and I really don't want anything to escalate.
