My finance and I are recently engaged and trying to plan our wedding, but we've realized it's more complicated than we thought. He is on a J1 research visa that expires end of July 2021, and his university will sponsor him for a H1b visa after that. However, we just found out that marriage to a US citizen is considered immigration intent and will likely result in consular officials rejecting a visa. If the H1b is considered dual intent, does this mean it's alright to be married to a US citizen? We were hoping to get married in Egypt, so he would need to leave the country after he has obtained H1 status in the US and then apply for a visa in Cairo. But we're afraid that the marriage would then cause him to be turned down for a visa. All the information we can find about getting a visa stamped abroad while married to a US citizen is specific to non-immigrant visas like the J1, but we can't find anything conclusive about dual intent visas like H1b. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
