H1B Status on a Paid Non-Compete if Fired/Leave Job

I work in an industry where it's typical to enforce a 6-12 month non-compete when an employee leaves a company (voluntarily or otherwise). I'm just curious if anyone has any experience with how this would affect H1B status. In theory, I would still be getting paid my salary by my company for the duration of the non-compete - would this count as employment to maintain H1B status?
