I am a Canadian who will be entering the United States to study on a F1 Visa in September 2021. Currently, I am consulting for a US-based company that is keen on retaining me for the upcoming 6-8 months to continue the work I'm doing (Sept. 2021-Mar. 2022).
They have offered to front a lump sum ahead of my possession of a F1 visa and intended date of entry into the States, to cover for prospective hours that I'd have to commit to throughout the 6-8 month period. Is this technically legal?
