Is it too early to apply for K-1?

Hi, My fiancé and I got engaged last week and we want to start applying for a k-1 visa!

  1. I was on a J-1 visa and I’m doing my two year home residency requirement which ends in end of June 2022. Is it too early to start applying now? Will that be a cause of denial? We met in person last week when we got engaged.

  2. Does it make sense to apply for a waiver for the two year requirement? Or will it just cost us time and effort? My J-1 program was paid for by the US government.

  3. Is it possible to apply for a B1/B2 (tourist) visa to visit him meanwhile? The US embassy in my country doesn’t process tourist visas at the moment so the application will be on hold for some time.
