Having second thoughts about doing a PhD

Hi people!

So I'm supposed to start my PhD in Chemical engineering in 3 weeks at an R1 ( ranked 77th on us news) school. My research filed is in electro catalysis.

I'm an international student from a country where you will not get a job with a PhD but you can do fine with just a BS.

In other words, I'm leaving a good paying job to start doing a PhD. Now, I'm completely fine with doing that, if I can get a job in the US once I'm done.

If I'm gonna get shipped back home once I'm done, I'd rather not waste the next 5 years and just stay here.

So international students from not top institutes, what has been your experience with getting a job
