ESTA/VWP use after L1 via denial

I live in Austria (where I am a citizen) and am married to a U.S. citizen. We'd like to go to the US in July, so I'm filling out the form for the VWP.

Also, in March 2020 my employer tried to get a L1-A visa for me to work in the US. The application was denied (I was previously in the US on L1-B). One of the eligibility question on ESTA is:

7) Have you ever been denied a U.S. visa you applied for with your current or previous passport, or have you ever been refused admission to the United States or withdrawn your application for admission at a U.S. port of entry?

Since I was not the applicant for the visa(that would be my employer at the time) and I was just the beneficiary, does this mean I can truthfully answer this question with "No"? I assume answering it with "yes" will result in the denial of a visa waiver.
