Hello,
We are currently awaiting our Adjustment of Status Interview - Marriage Based. San Francisco, California. I am curious about getting an AB60 Drivers license and if it will cause problems during our interview or adjustment of status.
Situation: We've been to the DMV twice to get a REAL ID, with our EAD and social security card. However, the social security card has my wife's old name on it. I know we need to change it at the SSA, but we also need to drive and our past drivers license is expired. They first rejected us because the EAD expired (which we just renewed), and today they rejected us because the Social Security card has my wife's old last name. The only option in the mean time is a California AB60 driver's license, typically reserved for undocumented persons.
The DMV offered to give us an AB60 drivers license while we waited for our interview, but I heard from other California DMV employee that it would cause problems with our interview and/or adjustment of status application.
My question is:
1) Has anyone had a AB60 drivers license and then successfully had their interview?
2) Is the DMV employee completely wrong regarding the AB60 affecting our application? I don't see how getting a drivers license would cause issues, especially since there's no other way unless the SSA sends us a new card or we get the green card.
Thank you in advance for the responses! I suspect the DMV employee is talking out of their ass.
