I recently got a job paying a decent wage in software engineering (first real job, 24) and this is in the US. I've been a citizen since birth but I've only lived in the US for about a year my entire life. My immediate family lives in US currently. I have a son that's 1 and a girlfriend that is 27, Filipina, and unemployed with only having gone to Vietnam like 1.5 years ago, but she does have a bachelors of arts. Unfortunately, it seems my son doesn't qualify for US citizenship because I have not lived in the US for 5 years prior to his birth. Feel this is a bit unfair considering I'm fluent in English, have been to the US numerous times, and have family there. What is the best course of action? I am leaving for the US very soon and would like them to follow shortly.
