Soon to be married and trying to figure out how to juggle immigration status between the US, Japan, and Canada. Any help appreciated.
I am soon to be married to my Japanese fiancée in Japan. Later this year, we intend on temporarily staying in the US, where I am a citizen. However, at some point in 2022 we will be making a move to Canada, where I am a permanent resident.
We eventually plan to settle down in Canada, and I have a good sense of the process she will need to go through to become a permanent resident like me. However, during our stopover in the US (likely 8 months or so) I am not sure how to handle her immigration status. I understand that she can enter the country as a tourist for 90 days, but what is our best option for her to be able to stay and work during those 8 months? PR processing times seem to be very lengthy in the US and I'm not sure if she would be able to maintain American PR anyway.
Tangentially, if she were to get a US green card, what would be the future ramifications of losing it while we are in Canada? If we decide to move back to the US in the future, would she be less likely to receive another green card?
