Overstayed visa, will I be barred?

am currently 20 years old and have lived in the USA since I was 3 years old as an undocumented person. My family originally came over the border legally on a bus. I have gotten married to a Canadian citizen and am currently going through an application process so that I can move to Canada as a Permanent Resident. From what I know, based on the fact I have overstayed my visa, I could be barred from re-entry to the USA for 10 years.

I was reading something about how unlawful presence is not triggered unless the authorities formally determine you are in violation, is this true? And if so, would this mean I would not be barred from re-entry to the USA to visit my family/friends
