I'm currently waiting on NOA2 (expected mid-September to early October) and will be going through Dublin, which probably means interview in December/January as they seem to be running about 3 months from NOA2 to interview.
I quit my well-paying job in June and I've been consulting since then. While I am currently interviewing for full-time employment I haven't really been in a rush (and in my field it is not unusual for companies to take 3+ months), but am now concerned about proving income during the interview because I'm in this weird position of having been employed for half the year but self-employed for half, which means I don't have tax returns from self-employment yet.
I've been making good money from consulting so am well above the income required. If I am not employed full time when my fiancé has his interview, this is what I will have to prove income YTD and and current:
- Tax returns (seems like they won't much care about these if I am self-employed) but maybe show what I can expect to make when I am employed again (?)
- Paystubs from January to June (again, seems like they'll be more interested in current and future income)
- Self-employment quarterly tax statements (Sept and Dec) showing net monthly income well above poverty guidelines
- Signed contracts from my clients showing current/future (I usually do multi-month retainer contracts)
- Bank statements showing deposits YTD from employment well above poverty guidelines
I know that you can use assets to "make up the difference" if you don't make enough and if you're unemployed you can use assets, but it feels like I'm in a weird space. My assets might just make 3x 125% of poverty guidelines but are probably not quite enough.
I'm assuming the I-134 is less important than the I-864, but I've heard they are tough on the self-employed.
Note that a joint sponsor is not an option.
Appreciate any insight on offer!
