Haven't seen my girlfriend in 3 years because of COVID19 and travel bans. Needed a place to rant or possibly find advice or solutions.
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this but I've been overwhelmingly stressed out and need a place to vent and get this off of my chest. I'm also curious how many people are in the same situation as I am.
I've been dating a Filipino girl for 7+ years now, I've even visited her there on 3 separate occasions, met her family, traveled, took photos and the whole 9 yards. We have known each other for so long that my passport even expired and needed to be renewed within the time we have known each other. I'm not a wealthy individual and life has been rough so roughly about a year before COVID19 reared its ugly head I made the unfortunate decision to not meet her so I could save money and I could file a petition to bring her here on a K-1 visa so we could finally be together for real. Then COVID happened creating all kinds of travel bans and red tape preventing me from legally being able to visit her due to the fact I'm not a citizen there, she's not technically my spouse yet and nor do we have children or anything of the sorts. Now there is a rule to applying for a K-1 visa that you have to have proof that you have seen your significant other with 2 years or you will be denied. I'm unfortunately passed that 2 year threshold and there is literally nothing I can do. I cant see my girl, I cant visit, I cant file for the K-1 visa or anything because of time restrictions, travel bans and plain bad luck and timing. I have photos, proof of visiting, a passport with stamps and everything but its still not enough to risk filing and being denied and throwing away money because of the 2 year law.
All in all I really just want people to know that despite political beliefs, being anti-vax and all the mess that comes a long with COVID19 there is more than just the lives of people at stake here and it effects everyone in different ways. For example I cant see the love of my life or find any loopholes for us to be together because their are idiots out there that don't want to wear masks or get a free shot. I'm not a political person and I am typically the type of person that believes everyone should be able to make their own decisions. I know this will probably stir up a hornets nest and there are going to be plenty of people that want to curse me but I don't care anymore. People need to get it together.
I wish someone out there could help me out, give me some advice or even sympathize with my situation. I wish someone knew the answer to my situation or I knew someone who works in immigration that has the answer I need. But I fear there is no answer except to just wait and be patient which I have been. Its hard. All I want to do is spend time with my girl and I cant, because of people and idiocracy. I'm one person and cant change the world but I wish like hell I could if it meant I could even spend a day with her so I could finally file for the visa.
