Have any J1 Trainee visa applicants successfully obtained NIE?

I'm currently in the process of applying for the J1 Trainee visa to start work for a company in the US in October. I have an embassy interview in Dublin scheduled this month and plan to bring the necessary documentation e.g DS-2019, proof of ties to come home, and a letter from my employer stating why he needs me in the US to work for the company hence the NIE. Has anyone from the Schengan area had any success acquiring NIE for J1? If so please let me know where and what the process was. I'm considering cancelling if the chances are high of being rejected from my interview this month and may consider going down the third county route.
