H1B approved - Waiting for visa appointment. When can I start being paid by my new job?

As question stated, company I received my H1B from is the company I did my OPT with. My H1B was accepted and I’m now just waiting for my passport stamping at the embassy. Am I allowed to be paid by my new job in the mean time? And if I can’t, when can I start being paid?

Just want to make sure I’m doing everything right! Thanks!
