For some background, I'm in Vancouver BC, currently an LPN doing my BSN RN program and I graduate next August. I plan to move to New York, hopefully in 2023, I'm happy to extend this to further into the future if this is unrealistic.
What I've learned so far (although I may be mistaken, so please correct me if I'm wrong!)
- a TN visa would be the way to go as a Canadian moving to US
- I need a VisaScreen for my TN Visa application?
- According to the NYSED website, I have to complete courses (infection control and child abuse reporting courses) as part of the application process? Although, I'm not sure where or how to take these courses as the website only provides NY locations for these courses.
- I have to complete RN paperwork and applications through NYSED
- I also have to complete paperwork and verification through the CGFNS
I'm confused about whether it's realistic to find a job in New York prior to moving. Do I need to secure employment to even begin the process? Also, may be a dumb question but is it necessary to be sponsored by a New York employer with a TN visa?
I feel like this post may be all over the place, so my apologies.
If anyone has any experience with this process, I'd love to know what you did and how it went!
Thanks in advance!!
