Hi!
This is more of a question for the IMGs in residency in the states, I was wondering, in layman's terms how would the H1-B eventually turn into your green card, in terms of timeline and how did it work for you?
Let me explain, say I do a 3 year IM residency, then I choose to do a 3 year fellowship, then I choose to do an extra 1 year of sub-fellowship.
Where in that timeline would I be able to apply for a green card? I ask this because, with the maximum stay being 6 years - how would I attempt a sub-fellowship? Also, would I not be allowed to ask my employer during my 3 year IM residency to start on my green card application, or does it not work like that? I can't seem to find any information regarding residency programs starting the transition to a green card soon after you have joined.
This is all purely theoretical, I'm just trying to put together the visa situation + training in the states, I really would be appreciative of any information.
Thanks.
