Important points:
- lost permanent resident green card, was still able to travel abroad with travel document for a family vacation to St. Lucia, WI (June 2019)
- lost passport while abroad :/
- planned to travel back to US early 2020 but couldn’t apply to replace missing green card or passport due to COVID closures of local offices as well as access to nearest embassy in Barbados
- I can’t order a replacement green card outside the US, and I fear my status may appear as abandoned if I wait any longer- it’s been more than a year but COVID put a huge dent in the time frame I would have been able to process paperwork needed to come back home
I lived in the US for more than 20 years, I have children there and family and life is there. My SO is pregnant and due to give birth this summer (she’s visited me a few times while I’ve been stuck here, we’ve been together 2 years) so I’m desperate to get back but don’t know what the right channels are. SO and I have talked about getting married, she’s a US citizen born and raised, but I don’t know if we would get through with that either. I don’t know if the SB1 visa would help in this case but I don’t know what else to do.... I will try to consult with an attorney but until then- any advice would be appreciated.
