Hi everyone,
Thank you for your time in reading this. I am currently on STEM OPT and my employer wants to file my H1B. It’s not something I asked for so it came as a surprise to me. My original plan is to get a masters degree in 2022 after my STEM OPT expires, I still would like to continue on that plan but I want to keep the H1B option open possibly, it sounds like a good opportunity.
If they do put me in the lottery and I get picked, is it a commitment to file a H1B petition and lose my F1 status?
How easy is it to transfer from H1B back to F1 if I do get it this year and decide to go to school next year, it seems there’s really no point of going in for the H1B.
Is there any benefit to filing the H1B vs staying F1?
Any response is greatly appreciated!
