The US just announced it will begin charging asylum-seekers up to $540 (up from zero) to apply for refuge, making it one of only four countries in the world to do so. Add your voice against putting up barriers for people fleeing poverty and persecution - https://ift.tt/3i8prMm

United States Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it will charge asylum-seekers $540 ($50 to apply and $490 for an Employment Authorization Document, up from zero currently) to seek refuge in the United States.

Many asylum seekers are fleeing poverty and/or persecution in their countries of residence. These fees will make it difficult, if not impossible, for many asylum-seekers to apply for refuge in the U.S.

Global asylum laws were created in reaction to the Holocaust. They are supposed to ensure that no one is turned away when seeking refuge from persecution. Putting up barriers for people fleeing poverty, oppression, and persecution to gain safety, security, and freedom is cruel, and antithetical to the values the US claims as a country.

Please consider supporting and sharing this petition (https://www.change.org/NoAsylumFees) asking USCIS to immediately roll these fees back, as well as sharing to draw more attention to this issue, which does not seem to have made much news and certainly very few headlines.

You could also reach out directly to the USCIS at [publicengagementfeedback@uscis.dhs](mailto:publicengagementfeedback@uscis.dhs), or on Twitter (@USCIS and Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli @ HomelandKen).

Thanks very much for reading.

NVC Case FE Review note

Hi everyone, my family and I are under the F3 category and we just received a notice from NVC that our documents have been approved and that we are Documentarily Qualified. My only concern is this message that we received today in addition to the acceptance: " [Name of petitioner] does not meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrants for this case. The consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement at the time of the interview. For more information, please visit https://www.uscis.gov/i-864p . To avoid delays, an additional Affidavit of Support Form I-864 for a joint sponsor may be submitted." We already have a petitioner and a household sponsor (the household sponsor's income is above the required level), but still unsure why we received this. Has anyone else received this message? All of our documents say "Approved" on NVC. Does this mean we have to find another sponsor? Can we show the consular officer our ...
